I made this the other morning when we had company. It was super simple to make and tasted sooo good. I used gingerbread cranberry buns from Cobs. I think it would be awesome with cinnamon raisin bread or hot cross buns too.

We served it for breakfast with fresh turkey sausages and fruit, but it could be served with a drizzle of icing for dessert as well.

Ingredients
3 cups milk
3 eggs
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 loaf of cinnamon raisin or white bread, cut into cubes OR 6 gingerbread or hot cross buns.

Optional
1 cup raisins, chopped apples, or another fruit of your choice.
2 tablespoons coarse sugar

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Whisk together milk, eggs, brown sugar, spices and vanilla. Toss in bread and fruit if using. Pour into a 9” by 9” ovenproof casserole dish, sprinkle with coarse sugar and bake for 30-45 minutes, until eggs are set, and the top is golden brown.

Given that we had company, I forgot to take the ‘after’ photo… But I did get the ‘before’. Just picture it dark golden brown… And the house warm and smelling like heaven! Mmmm…
